ALCS Playoffs; Eighth Edition
In the 3rd game of the ALCS series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox, the Red Sox decided to leave the lumber at home and see how bad Tampa Bay could beat on them. Fenway Park and the
“Green Monster” could not contain the powerful bats of the Rays as they would beat on the Boston pitchers all night. Four different Rays would go deep over the monster. Two of those would be produced in a 3 run third inning. The first would be off the bat of B.J. Upton and the second would come from young Evan Longoria. The third home run would be from Right Fielder Rocco Baldelli in the 8th. The fourth and final would be produced in the ninth putting the proverbial nail in the coffin. It was off the bat of Carlos Pena.
As for the Sox, their lone run would come in 7th inning. Jason Varitek would be the only Boston player to reach home plate. Jacoby Ellsbury would be responsible for driving him in with a sacrifice fly.
On the pitching side, Rays starter Matt Garza was masterful. He would work 6 strong innings before giving way to the bullpen. Boston’s starting pitcher Jon Lester would be saddled with the loss for the BoSox.
