All about the Talent; Second edition
The inspiration for this series came from another network that I belong to known as ActiveRain Real Estate Network. In there, they have a group that is called Hidden Gems in the Rain and it is based on finding talent in the network and exposing the talent to more people. That is basically what this series is attempting to do. Earlier this week I went searching for more victims bloggers to interview and was surprised to find several. So, my next few weeks are booked solid. The series will be published every Saturday morning for all to enjoy with your morning coffee.
This week’s interview took me to the world of skateboarding. For me, this is not a subject that I am well versed in. However, that is a different story for the 25 year old Sir Jorge from Seattle, Washington where he doubles as a Tech Manager for a Snowboard Shop. He is the author to the website known as Sirj Skateboard: daily skate blog. This site is just a little over a year old and holds a PR3 ranking through Google and a ranking of 1,252,139 through Alexa as I write this.
What I found to be interesting about Sir Jorge is that he has been blogging for about 10 years. Most of his blogging has been based on personally based sites. Sirj Skateboard is the first site that he has started that is based on something other than him. One of the great things about him is the experience of blogging and the knowledge of what works and
what does not. When asked about his favorite thing about blogging, he stated “It helps me waste time whenever I feel bored.” He also mentioned to me that a big plus to him is that he is ”
not censored at all. I hate censorship.”
When asked about the reason he loves sports so much he answered “The challenge of pushing your body to the limits. The constant pursuit of one goal, that one trick (for us skateboarders) that one landing, the rush of adrenaline that you get from the activity.” “A Love for skateboarding, and seeing that there wasn’t a lot of skateboarding blogs that were consistently updated.” was the reasoning that he gave for creating his site.
I asked him what he thought was the most read articles on his site. I found it interesting that he answered that it was the articles about shoes and sneakers. He went further to state that videos get a lot of traffic but yet the biggest search element for his page is still the skate shoes and sneakers. He did mention that the one post that might be the best was http://sirjskateboarding.blogspot.com/2008/09/son-of-mullen.html. It’s this amazing video of a kid that’s doing all classic skate tricks from the 80’s like Rodney Mullen.
If you do not frequent his page, you need to get by and check him out. This is actually a very nice layout that is easy to read even for the novice like me.
