Jackets 2-0 Start Comes To a Screeching Halt
Already? We’re losing games like this already? A game we had a chance to win, should’ve won, and I think we really needed to win, was lost. Paul Johnson’s second ACC game wasn’t quite as good as his first.
I can say this about the 2008 Yellow Jackets before I start.
Paul Johnson doesn’t coach like Chan Gailey and Josh Nesbitt doesn’t play like Reggie Ball. So we got that going for us.
But any momentum we were starting to gain after our revenge against Boston College, and the loss Matt Ryan and Co. handed us last year, dwindles as we return home for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. I will be there when the 1-2 Miss. State Otherdogs come to town and I have to say, I hope I don’t hear too many cowbells ringing in my ears as we get try to get our season back in gear.
So what happened last Saturday to give my Yellow Jackets their first loss of the year?
The Jackets didn’t play too badly. Nesbitt rushed for 151 yards with a TD. He also completed 5 of 8 passes with 1 TD pass and an INT but got a gutsy penalty threatened 2 point conversion pass in the fourth quarter for the tie. However, a questionable call got the Hokies back in it and led the winning field goal and that was the ball game.
Though didn’t throw the ball a whole lot, he did decent job of finding guys when needed and kept us in it throughout the day. The Jackets offensively outperformed the Hokies in all categories but this was a game that just saw the chips fall the wrong way.
You can’t hang your head too much about it but if these kind of losses become a habit, we might be looking at Gailey Strike Back: The Return To Mediocrity.
We need a win at home next week against MSU and then we’ve got a few confidence builders; Duke (they have a football team too?) Gardner-Webb (yes ANOTHER Bulldog team) before the tough ACC teams come to town.
Let’s go, Jackets!

JB, I watched some of this game and I can not believe that GT lost to VT. The game did not look like either team was hungry enough to take it.
