Georgia Bulldogs Focused On Goal

By Danny Thornton | September 6th, 2008

The Bulldogs set two goals for themselves as they came into the season ranks #1 in the nation. The first goal was to win their conference; the SEC. The second goal is to march into Miami for the BCS Championship and left their crowned the NCAA BCS Champions. Last week, they started that march. What was disappointing is the fact that since Georgia did not run the score up on GSU, they got knocked to number two in the polls. Hopefully, we can change that today.

The Georgia Bulldogs get set to have their first ever meeting with the Central Michigan Chippewas. Both teams won their openers and both play sub division teams. This game will take place in Athens at Sanford Stadium and it is expected to be a sold out crowd. You can catch the game of FSN South. Kenneth Harris looks to be the only Bulldog not slated to go this afternoon.

In looking at this game, I am not seeing it as anything close. The Bulldogs seem to be superior in size, speed, and ability. But, this is sports, so you never take the opposition lightly. I look for the Bulldogs to come out and set the tempo quick with running backs Knowshon Moreno and Caleb King. Knowshon left last weeks game early due to “sore leg muscles”. With that said, I look for them to work the two backs in together.

In doing just that, it will open the airways for Georgia’s Junior quarterback, Matthew Stafford. Matthew threw for 275 yards and 2 touchdowns last week against the Eagles before giving way to fellow Junior Joe Cox.

I look for the Dawgs defense to “Hunker Down” between the hedges today as well. Giving up the 21 points last weekend might be the one thing that cost them their number 1 spot and I look for them to try and reclaim that today.

All in all, this looks to be an exciting day in Athens, Georgia.

Great to happen upon a blog by another fan of UGA.

It is pretty lame that showing good sportsmanship results in losing a spot in the polls. But that’s the breaks in our horrendously broken BCS system.

Today’s game was excellent, though I had to just watch the stat gametracker on ESPN. :(

I am a tad worried about our defense, giving up 17 pts. But CMU is all offense, so maybe that’s ok.

GO DAWGS!

My concern lies more with the Bulldogs lack of focus on defense. The first down by CMU was evidence of that.

who cares about the polls this early in the season. As long as Georgia keeps winning convincingly and is undefeated it will not make a difference in the end.

I would have to say that the way that Georgia played and the fact that they kept their starters in the game until the 4th quarter, they cared. The Bulldogs wanted to sit in that number one seat all year.
